The term “hosting” does not describe one service, but several services that offer numerous functions to a domain. Having a website and e-mails, as an illustration, are two separate services though in the general case they come together, so many people see them as one single service. In fact, every single domain name has a several DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that handles each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that defines where the website for the domain is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain address. For example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will then be directed to the correct server. The concept behind employing separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you may have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a Linux website hosting from our company, you'll be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your domain names. As long as a given domain name has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change specific records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or emails pointed to another service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool will allow you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main Internet domain in any way. If you want to use the e-mail services of a different company and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with just a couple of clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our semi-dedicated packages, will permit you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a few more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you 100 % control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
